Who is responsible for your data

The data controller is VšĮ „Technologijų ir visuomenės institutas“, Perkūnkiemio g. 19, LT-12120 Vilnius. Email: info@tvi.lt. Company code: 308173516.

Server logs

Whenever you open a page, the server hosting the site automatically records technical details of the request: your IP address, the date and time, the address requested, the response code, the amount of data sent, the technical description your browser provides (the user agent) and, if your browser sends it, the page you came from.

This data is used only to keep the site running and secure, for example to detect attacks or faults. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). We do not use the logs for visitor statistics or profiling.

The site is hosted by: Hostinger, UAB (Lithuania), using the Hostinger content delivery network (CDN). The provider acts as a data processor under its data processing addendum.

Log retention period: set by the hosting provider. TVI does not keep separate copies of the logs and only reviews them when investigating faults or security incidents. IP addresses are stored in full in the logs.

Your theme choice in the browser

When you press the theme switch, a single entry is written to your browser’s local storage (localStorage): the key tvi-theme with the value light or dark. It means you don’t have to choose the theme again next time you visit.

The entry is never sent anywhere and is not used to identify you. Until you press the theme switch, nothing is stored: the site follows your device setting.

Storage of this kind is considered strictly necessary for a feature you asked for, so separate consent is not required (Article 5(3) of the EU ePrivacy Directive 2002/58/EC, transposed in Lithuania by the Law on Electronic Communications). The entry stays until you delete it.

You can delete it with the button below, or by clearing this site’s data in your browser settings.

AI Use Guide

The AI Use Guide pages use your browser’s local storage (localStorage). They store: the text size (di.size), the chapters you have read and where you stopped reading (di.visited, di.last), the role you selected on the start page (di.role), the expanded contents groups (di.groups), ticks in the checklists (di.checks) and your recent searches (di.recent.lt, di.recent.en). The theme choice is shared with the rest of the site (tvi-theme).

These entries are never sent anywhere and are not used to identify you. They are needed only for the guide’s features: so that you can continue reading where you stopped and your checklist ticks are kept. They stay until you delete them by clearing this site’s data in your browser settings.

The guide uses no cookies, analytics or outside services. TVI is the publisher of the guide and the controller of this data.

Interactive tools

The security habits check, the scam-spotting quiz and the AI answer check work only in your browser’s memory. Your answers are not written to browser storage, are not sent to a server and disappear when you reload or close the page.

The site’s Content Security Policy technically prevents the page’s scripts from sending data to any server.

When you email us

We receive your email address, your name (if you give it) and the content of your message. We use this data only to reply and to correspond with you about your question. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR), or, if you contact us about a contract, steps taken before entering into one (Article 6(1)(b)).

Email service provider: Hostinger, UAB (Lithuania).

How long we keep correspondence: as long as needed to reply and continue the conversation, and no longer than 2 years after the last message unless the law requires longer.

Please don’t send sensitive data, such as health information or a personal identification number, unless your question requires it.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access your data, to ask for it to be corrected or deleted, to restrict its processing, to object to processing based on legitimate interest and, where applicable, to receive your data in a portable format (Articles 15–21 GDPR).

To exercise these rights, write to info@tvi.lt. If you believe your data is being handled improperly, you can complain to the Lithuanian supervisory authority, the State Data Protection Inspectorate (external link) (L. Sapiegos g. 17, 10312 Vilnius).
